New Art Exhibition at the Museum

We are excited to be now holding a summer art exhibition in the museum, on the theme of plants and flowers, by local artist Robin Moorcroft.

Robin uses a range of printing techniques to create striking images of plants and you will recognise some of the plants that are growing in the Museum’s Victorian Garden.

As well as framed art we have a large selection of cards for sale.

If you are joining us for the coffee morning on Saturday 12th August do take the opportunity to visit the exhibition.

Robin is a fine art printmaker specialising in original, hand-inked, limited edition prints.  Plants are her main source of inspiration and she uses a number of techniques to represent them.  In some prints, pressed plants are used either to print from directly or to create textured collagraph blocks, from which the final images are taken.  Robin also enjoys using reduction and multi-block lino cutting to represent more complex structures.  Most recently, she has been experimenting with combined techniques, particularly drypoint drawing and chine colle, a method of incorporating collage papers into an image during the printing process.  Her hope is to convey a love of plants and flowers within her work.

As each of Robin’s prints is inked individually, colours may vary slightly within a standard edition due to the handmade nature of the work.  Some prints are marked ‘VE’ for ‘Variable Edition’ where the image is the same but the colourways of each print have been intentionally varied.

On leaving school, Robin started to train as an architect but changed direction and worked for many years in the Public Sector.  In 1996, she enrolled on an open access printmaking course at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth (now Arts University Bournemouth) and became hooked!  She went on to complete the Foundation in Fine Art, followed by an HNC in Fine Art/Printmaking.  In 2003 she bought her own press and now works from home in Wimborne.
