Garden Group Volunteer Wendy Devine working in the Museum’s Victorian Garden
I moved to Blandford a few months ago after 30 years in Bournemouth. Gardening has always been a hobby and I love volunteering so I joined the Museum Victorian Garden Group. I found the other volunteers extremely kind and welcoming and they have taken me under their wing. They tolerate my constant prattling and are teaching me along the way. I only do a couple of hours a week but love deadheading, planting, seed sowing and general maintenance of the garden alongside all the lovely people who work as a team running the garden.
It was a scary prospect moving to Blandford but we love it here. I believe it is important to do something on “your patch” that gives back to the Town you live in and helps you to make new friends. Gardening has been my saviour during stressful times especially in the last 3 years – simply watching a bee or a butterfly go about its business is very enriching and calming. It is food for the soul.
