Friday Talk: Medieval Women and How to Find Them

Cindy Wood is a Senior Lecturer in the School of History and Archaeology at the University of Winchester. She specializes in the social history of the Late Medieval Period, studying religion, the parish church system, the impact of the Black Death, and society using both documentary and physical sources.

As well as Cindy’s talk, there will be an opportunity to see and hear about the progress of the Museum’s “Stour Valley Sampler”. This large-scale embroidery, inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, explores the role of Medieval women set against the background of the River Stour and local settlements, as they were in the Middle Ages. The sampler will also display common plants, which Medieval women would have used and animals which would have existed in the local area.

Admission to the talk is £5 for museum members, £8 for non-members.

Drinks and light refreshments will be available from 7 pm, and the talk will start at 7:30.
