Friday Talk: The Origins of Speech

The first in our 2022 series of Friday Talks will be given by our emeritus curator, Professor Peter Andrews.

Professor Peter Andrews is a research scientist retired from the Natural History Museum. He is an anthropologist interested in all aspects of human evolution, and recently he has been investigating the origins of speech: when did we learn to speak with symbols (words), and what was it that led to this mind-changing event? He will be talking about some basic concepts of language as well as looking at genetic, anatomical and fossil evidence of speech.

Admission to the talk is £5 for museum members, £8 for non-members.

Drinks and homemade hot food will be available from 6.30 pm, and the talk will start at 7.30 pm.

Please note that we have limited numbers so as to give everyone plenty of space, so to avoid disappointment please contact us to reserve your place. Payments will not be taken in advance.
