Friday Talk: A History of the River Stour from Fiddleford to Shapwick

Have you ever wondered why Blandford and the nearby settlements developed where and how they did?

In this month’s talk, Joy Reynolds will explore why and how Blandford and the neighbouring settlements along the River Stour developed through different historical periods. She will look at the way in which the river was used and how it influenced the pattern of life over the ages, from Mesolithic times to the modern day.

The talk is part of the work by Blandford Town Museum’s Stour Valley Group and also the Stour Valley Sampler Group, which is exploring the roles of Medieval women.

Drinks and nibbles will available to buy from 7 pm, and the talk will start at 7.30 pm.
(Please note that we are not offering hot meals this year)

Admission £5 for museum members, £8 for non-members.

We have a variety of talks about our history and heritage from a range of expert speakers lined up for Spring and Autumn 2023. These will take place on Fridays (usually, but not always, the last Friday of the month) at the Parish Centre in Blandford.
