Archaeology Group Lecture: The Royal Palace of Clarendon

January’s Archaeology Group lecture: ” The Royal Palace of Clarendon – history and archaeology” will be given by Dr Cindy Wood, Senior Lecturer in Medieval History at Winchester University.

The Royal Palace of Clarendon, just outside Salisbury, was one of the most important royal palaces for the peripatetic medieval kings and was of equal status to Westminster in the 13 and 14th centuries. Clarendon Palace was where Henry II argued with Thomas Becket, where the Assizes and Constitutions of Clarendon were enacted, and where Henry VI first had a mental collapse. Still set in its medieval parkland this talk will consider its importance, history and archaeological legacy
