Archaeology Group Lecture: Keeper’ Cottage, Stalbridge: an archeological and historical mystery

The first lecture of the Autumn 2024 season will be given by Nigel James. For the past three years, SDAAG have been undertaking an archaeological investigation near Stalbridge. Long-forgotten medieval and post-medieval buikdings have been uncovered, along with a wealth of artefacts that hint at a high-status past with possible connections to Sherborne Abbey. Today we can tentatively paint a picture of what was there, and why 550 years of history seemingly came to a sudden end in the mid-18th century and the site was forgotten.
