Archaeology Group Lecture: Corfe Castle Excavations

Nancy Grace, National Trust Archaeologist, will speak about Excavations at Corfe Castle.

The National Trust were bequeathed the Bankes estate, which included Kingston Lacy and Corfe Castle, in 1982. In 1986 a scheme of archaeological work was proposed to address some health and safety issues and by doing so, reveal more of the ruin. During the presentation we will take an archaeological tour of all the excavations and the stories they revealed, from 1986 until the late 1990s, including consolidation work of the stonework and a view from the top of the keep.
